Free Water & TSS in LNG

CANTY manufactures analyzers designed for the inline measurement of the concentrations and particle size and shape distributions of water and total suspended solids (tss) in LNG lines. Changes to temperature and pressure result in changes to the amount of water that can dissolve in this fluid. As such, making the measurement reliably and inline is critical to ensuring that free water does not damage equipment in your process. Other technologies require samples to be brought to a lab, can be influenced by different kinds of contaminants, and don’t reflect the same information that they would otherwise measure under the actual process conditions.

HYDROGEN REFORMER – ULTRATEMP

The CANTY Ultratemp™ is a vision-based camera system used with the CANTY Vector System image processor to monitor temperature of the tubes inside a hydrogen reformer. The CantyVision™ Software accurately measures temperature as well as bend in the tube for complete control. In comparison to thermocouples which are costly, not reliable, and monitor only one tube, a camera system can monitor multiple tubes at the same time. The CantyVision™ software can output a signal to alarm if the tube has increased in temperature over a certain time to an operator screen, PLC, or DCS for closed loop control. The steam can then be introduced to clean the tube and avoid plugging and then switch back to the natural gas. The pyrometer is not effective for controlling the temperature in the reformer due to the time intervals in between analysis is taken. Also, not everyone measures at the same point and this could lead to a change in temperature when a change never occurred. To calibrate the system the pyrometer can be used initially. If the temperature in the tubes increase over 10°C over 10 min, a plug has a chance to take place. With the Ultratemp™ this event can be avoided completely.

JET FUEL – INFLOW

The CANTY Inflow™ is a vision-based camera system monitoring for water in jet fuel and particles in jet fuel in a lab environment / at-line / in-line process. The presence of these two physical contaminants is dangerous to aircraft fuel systems and engines, and compromises safety. The CantyVision™ Software accurately measures multiple aspects of the jet fuel from water / solids / gas independent of each other for accurate data. In comparison to a laser, which measures only one dimension and can’t identify the difference of water and solids in the stream, the CantyVision™ software can identify the differences. The customer can also visually verify the readings. Fuel contamination takes place mainly in transportation and storage. The current method of measuring jet fuel is the subjective visual inspection test. CANTY objectively takes the measurement and reports based on a two dimensional image. Color / HAZE / Solids / Water are all measured and continuously and objectively monitored. By knowing whether there is a water or solids problem this helps the operators identify how to fix the problem. The Inflow™ is an in-line analysis system to make sure production samples are not skipped over!

DESALTER – INFLOW

The CANTY Inflow™ is a vision-based camera system used with the CANTY Vector System image processor for OiW & WiO concentration and size measurement in-line: the crude inlet, crude outlet, & effluent water. The CantyVision™ Software accurately measures multiple aspects of the OiW & WiO from oil / water / solids / gas independent of each other for accurate data. In comparison to a florescence monitor, which measures only oil and is affected by solids and gas in the stream. The CantyVision™ software can identify the differences and the customer can visually verify the readings. The Inflow™ can calibrated with the customers current lab method to make for easy instillation in the field. Determining PPM on the inlet will help optimize the desalter intake and verify what is entering the unit. Providing PPM on the outlets the desalter will benefit the effluent water side for EPA regulations as well as the crude side to increase production efficiency. The interface can be controlled through automaic sampling, instead of having to take sample test bottles. Video recording is an option for later analysis. In-line analysis makes sure production samples are not skipped over due to lack of time!

INFLOW™ COLOR MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

Canty InFlow technology images the fluid to capture color and particle size, shape and distribution if desired. Systems have a fused glass-to-metal, smooth interface with the process which enables use in high temperature and pressure environments, and minimizes maintenance of the interface in extreme environments.

INFLOW™ PERCENT SOLIDS MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

Percent Solids measurement is typically a ratio of the area of solid particles vs the background. As solid percentages increase this can also be done by comparing the ratio of light through an empty cell vs light through a cell with solid content. The analysis is frame by frame at a rate in excess of 30 frames per second, so data can be supplied in very short time intervals (seconds) and produce a steady trend line of percent solids readings vs time.
